From: Marian Vega Clancy

21 March, 2025
A Special Message From Your President!

I invite all members to attend the Federal Judiciary Study meeting to discuss a series of topics designed to help our League come to consensus regarding a LWV position on the Federal Judiciary as an essential component of US democracy.

Our 1st meeting, to study the issues is Monday, March 24 at 5:30 - 7:30pm on Zoom. This is a joint meeting with the San Diego League.

At our 2nd meeting, on Monday, March 31 at 5:30 - 7:30pm on Zoom, we will discuss and come to a consensus.

Currently, the LWVUS has official positions on Congress and the Presidency but lacks a formal position on the Federal Judiciary.

Please prepare for our group study and discussion by reading the materials below before the meeting.

The papers are mostly short, 2-3 pages, very informative, and will prepare you for what I hope will be lively discussion!

I look forward to seeing you there!

Policy Briefs

Below are a series of briefs on topics designed to help spark discussion among League members as we work toward a LWVUS position on the federal judiciary. The intention is to help develop a long-lasting position based on the principles of judicial independence, transparency, accountability, and ethics (and possibly others). Our goal is a position that outlines the values – the standards and norms – the League of Women Voters should use in evaluating proposed changes to policies, laws, and regulations about the federal judiciary.
