Voter Empowerment

Our activities include a Voter Service Committee, which is active at all times and includes our Youth Voter Initiative.

During election season, we activate our Pros and Cons Committee, Candidate Forums Committee, and Vote 411 online ballot tool. All members are invited to become a part of one of these fun and fundamental purposes of League--training is provided.

To get involved or to request a service, click on the contact links below.

Voter Service

Email Voter Service

Our Voter Service team staffs voter registration events throughout  North County, focusing on communities with lower participation rates in the election process including homeless, formerly incarcerated, and minority populations.

Voter registration training is also available for community organizations wishing to educate and/or train their members and staff to register eligible voters.

Members can volunteer on an as needed basis for these events.  Add your name to the volunteer list so you can be contacted when we need volunteers to staff an event.

If you are part of a community organization that serves individuals interested in voting, contact us to set up a  voter registration and education event.  LWVNCSD wants to help you register those voters and share with them some tips about the voting process.

Youth Voter Initiative

Email Jill Cooper

Get involved with our new Youth Voter Initiative to register high school- and college-aged voters and deliver civics education.

Contact Jill for more information or to volunteer!

LWVNCSD is a well-respected resource for moderating and facilitating fair, non-partisan candidate forums. Candidate Forums are one of the few opportunities voters have to engage directly with candidates, beyond brief sound bites. Forums provide an opportunity to hear and see candidates present their platform and respond to questions submitted by the public on issues that concern them.

Every election season, members have an opportunity to participate in candidate forums in a variety of functions: as moderators, timekeepers, question sorters as well as other support positions.  All training is provided.  Please contact our Candidate Forums lead for more information or to join the team: candidateforums@lwvncsd.org.

Members of the community who would like to request a candidate forum for a local race (city council, school board, County Board of Supervisor, etc.) can do so by filling out this request form:

Pros & Cons Presentations

Mandy Butler, Pros & Cons Chair

Request A Pros and Cons Presentation

One of the most popular programs offered by the League, Pros and Cons Presentations provide a nonpartisan, unbiased explanation of each state and local ballot initiative to help voters untangle the myriad strands of data and make a reasoned decision when casting their vote.  We cover the financial impact of the proposition, who the key supporters and opponents are, as well as the amount of money that has been spent to support or oppose the measure.

Volunteers on this committee
  • do research on the propositions,
  • help with developing the slide presentation (one for each ballot measure),
  • provide administrative assistance with scheduling, and, of course,
  • do the presentations.

All training is provided, and you will find this activity rewarding and fun.

These presentations can be offered in person, or remotely, via Zoom, equally effectively.

If you would like us to come present to your organization, contact our Pros and Cons Chair.  We can tailor the  presentations to cover measures of greatest interest to your organization.

Contact the Pros and Cons Chair for more info, to join the team, or to request a presentation.
